We started the year collaborating with the Science and Mathematics Council as part of the Question Setting committee to set questions for the 42nd and 43rd International C. B. Paul Science Quiz 2021 and 2022 respectively. >Through the intense and creative brainstorming sessions, and from the feedback of the panel of judges from the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University, and ACJC alumni, our members had a great opportunity to broaden their knowledge in physics. Our juniors are also continuing the legacy by setting critical-thinking questions for the 43rd International C. B. Paul Science Quiz 2022.
Furthermore, our members organised the Drone Workshop for ACJC students where participants navigated the drones in an obstacle course. Under the guidance of Dr Xue Hansong of the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore, Mr Leow Hua Sheng of ST Engineering Geo-Insights, and Dr Johnathan Yik of A*STAR, we embarked on three research projects on perovskites solar cells, data visualisation and programming based on satellite images, and artificial lighting in urban farming respectively to participate in the Singapore Science and Engineering Fair 2021. We won the Merit Award and the SSEF Special Award by Electrochemical Society, Singapore Chapter Special Award. Our juniors have likewise are embarking on another 2 projects to take part in next year’s competitions. Through these competitions, we not only expanded our horizons by using our physics knowledge to tackle real life issues but also advocated the need and importance of having a greener tomorrow. Additionally, our juniors are working on research projects on neural network and imaging to participate in the Singapore Science and Engineering Fair (SSEF) 2022.
Our juniors underwent 6 months of intensive training conducted by IPhO medallists to take part in competitions such as the Singapore Physics Olympiad 2021. Our juniors also took part in the Engineering Innovation Challenge 2021, and invested the seed money to develop the prototypes for their project proposals involving radiation in food.
Prior to the major examinations, our club has also organised the Peer Support Group which is a group we created mainly to support our fellow peers by answering their questions, giving summaries, as well as providing an alternative to teacher-student consultations, and quoting Einstein “Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.”
