This year, the Chemistry and Materials Club, ventured into RNA research and also to promote the passion for Chemistry to students of all age groups.
We partnered with the Science and Mathematics Council as part of the Question Setting Committee of the 42nd and 43rd International C. B. Paul Science Quiz 2021 and 2022 respectively. We researched about the recent happenings in the world to craft innovative application questions to interest the participants in the International C. B. Paul Science Quiz. This has provided a platform for us to deepen our knowledge in Chemistry.
Our club conducted a Scented Hand Sanitiser Workshop for ACJC students thus further our understanding in Biochemistry.
Our juniors underwent 6 months of intensive training conducted by IChO Medallist to take part in competitions such as the Singapore Chemistry Olympiad 2021. Additionally, our juniors are working on research projects on neural network and imaging to participate in the Singapore Science and Engineering Fair (SSEF) 2022. We took part in the 2nd International Sci-Teens Challenge 2021.
In hopes to help ACJC students stay attentive in lessons using Biochemistry, we competed in the Singapore Science and Engineering Fair 2020 with a research project on the “Computational Analysis of Cancer RNAseq Data for Presence of Circular RNA to Assist Early Detection of Multiple Myeloma”, a computational biomedical cancer gene research project under Dr Kenneth Ban and Dr Benedict Yan, NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Our juniors are currently working on research projects to take part in the Singapore Science and Engineering Fair 2021 and the Beijing Youth Science Creation Competition 2021.
Prior to the major examinations, our club has also organised the Peer Support Group which is a group we created mainly to support our fellow peers by answering their questions, giving summaries, as well as providing an alternative to teacher-student consultations.
