This year, the Biomedical Club empowered the thirst for knowledge in the fields of Biology and Medical Science through a range of activities catered to the learning of the school and the community.
We started the year collaborating with the Science and Mathematics Council as part of the Question Setting Committee in the 42nd and 43rd International C. B. Paul Science Quiz 2021 and 2022 respectively. Through setting Biomedical and Biology questions, we deepened our knowledge on medicine as well as on basic biological sciences and took the opportunity to allow those that had deep passion to shine during these competitions.
In addition, we competed in the 10th International Biomedical Quiz 2021, and the theme was “Infectious Diseases”. All of us won awards including the Gold, Silver, Bronze, Honourable Mention, and Merit. Through the 4 months of intensive gruelling training, we were exposed to content beyond the ‘A’ Levels H2 Biology syllabus, giving us a deeper appreciation for the biological and medical sciences.
Additionally, our juniors are working on research projects on neural network and imaging to participate in the Singapore Science and Engineering Fair (SSEF) 2022.
In November 2020 and 2021, we learnt from the best as we hosted a Medical Webinar on COVID-19 pandemic conducted by a Cambridge University Medical School student.
We had a learning journey to the Centre of Healthcare Simulation and Anatomy Museum of NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. We have also hosted a Medical Workshop conducted by medical students from NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in 2020.
Prior to the major examinations, our club has also organised the Peer Support Group which is a group we created mainly to support our fellow peers by answering their questions, giving summaries, as well as providing an alternative to teacher-student consultations.
